I searched through our local concert guide and found the punk Band SWMRS. I’ve never heard of them before, but it seemed a lot of fun to use them for my poster design.

I won’t go too detailed on the steps I went through to create the poster, as this project is focused on the amount of information. I used several tutorials for stylized effects and “dot” effects to give it an edgy look it needs for a punk band (i know, stereotypes). Also, I wanted to use an animal head on top of a human body. I don’t know exactly how I got that idea, but it matched the band’s attitude.

Process

Stumbling across animal pictures, I’ve found a gorgeous wolf. I used photoshop to crop and isolate the important parts from the Background. I’ve used the same steps to isolate the body, in this case, a picture of a waiter. I’ve used an old paper picture to add a bit of texture to the background.

Once finished, on a separate file, I started to write all information which I believed to be important. I would like to know the date and start time of the concert. What Band is playing and where? The price would be good to know too and some additional info of the Band itself (from California).

For the Font, I wanted to use a playful but edgy one. Which would work for a very young punk band. “Bangers” was my Font of choice at the end.

Once I’ve arranged all data on the Poster, I showed it to some friends. Feedback was very consistent:

– too much info
– the price is not needed
– Difficult to focus on the Band’s name, which should be the first attention grabber.

My Overloaded Result:

Poster info overload

A more minimalistic approach:

Once I’ve arranged all data on the Poster, I showed it to some friends. Feedback was very consistent:

– too much info
– the price is not needed
– Difficult to focus on the Band’s name, which should be the first attention grabber.

I redesigned the content based on ma friends feedback:

– I got rid of the time and price information. If I would want to go to the concert, i probably look it up online anyway, therefore, not needed.
– Same with the address. I just kept the Name of the concert hall, as people need to know where it will be.
– I’ve resized the Band Name and added a 3D element on it. It pops out more and now it is clearly the central piece of information on the Design.

Poster info overloadminimal

I didn’t invest too much time on the design itself, as this is a project focused on the information. But all in all, I’m happy with the result.
